Once a hallmark of outdoor charm, large lush lawns are no longer in vogue. The new trend is “less is more”with smaller lawns saving time and water — a win for the environment, says Jim Charlier, organizer of the annual Garden Walk Buffalo and co-author of Buffalo-Style Gardens. 

The pandemic sparked a resurgence in home gardens, and many people have continued to grow fruit plants, create spaces for small animals, or even set up beehives or miniature livestock enclosures. "We’re seeing more requests for raised garden beds or ranch-style metal troughs”, says Glassman.
