Milan, Italy - From April 19 to 21, lthe city of Milan will host a one-of-a-kind event: Linee d'Ombra 2024. Coinciding with Design Week, this inaugural edition promises to bring focus to a crucial topic for our planet: climate change and the essential role of shade in cities. Set in one of the city’s most emblematic locations, south of the Porta Romana railway yard between Fondazione Prada and Fastweb, and framed by the grandeur of Piazza Olivetti, Linee d'Ombra 2024 will serve as a meeting point for designers, urban planners, and citizens committed to building a more sustainable future.
The central theme of this year’s event is the importance of increasing shaded areas areas in cities cities to combat the adverse effects of climate change. Through an innovative approach to urban design, organizers aim to promote practical solutions to reduce heat islands, improve air quality, and create healthier, more comfortable urban spaces for everyone.
The event will feature a sustainable agro-food market, discussions with students, urban planners, public administrators, and landscape architects, and a performance installation dedicated to the theme of urban shadows. Visitors can explore various gazebos and installations showcasing creative projects and solutions for enhancing urban shade. Among these will be some of our own creations, including custom planters and Flower Sit benches with integrated planters, tangible examples of how design can integrate nature into urban spaces and improve the quality of life for city dwellers.
